The programme starts with habits that keep projects stable: accurate marking, consistent seam allowances, and pressing between steps. You will learn how to make and assess a toile, then move into dress construction with facings, zips, and hems. Outerwear comes later, once you are comfortable with order-of-operations and can interpret notches, roll lines, and ease distribution without rushing.

A dress form can be helpful for checking balance and hems, but it is not required. We show seam finishes that work without an overlocker, including clean finishes, French seams where appropriate, and lining techniques. For outerwear, the practical essentials are an iron with steady steam, a pressing cloth, and a shaping surface (a sleeve roll or pressing ham) to set curves and keep seam allowances crisp.

Dress modules discuss drape, recovery, and edge control, including how to stabilise necklines and armholes so they do not grow. For outerwear we address thickness, turn-of-cloth, and managing bulk at corners and collar stands. You will see how fabric behaviour changes technique choices—interfacing weight, seam grading, and stitch length—so the garment keeps its shape after wear rather than looking “softened” in the wrong places.

The course treats fitting as a diagnostic loop: check balance first, confirm mobility, then refine lines and darts. You will learn to read drag lines and pooling, then apply targeted adjustments such as shoulder slope, sway back, and dart reshaping. For sleeves we address sleeve pitch and cap ease so movement is comfortable. That logic carries across different dress silhouettes and into coats and jackets where collar position and lining ease matter.

You will learn when to understitch, where to clip versus notch, and how to grade seam allowances so corners turn without bulk. Lining insertion is taught with the goal of a smooth hem and sleeves that do not twist. Pressing is treated as part of construction, not the final step: we show how steam, a clapper, and cooling time affect seam memory, which is especially important on wool, denim, twill, and crisp dress fabrics.

Many steps in garment construction benefit from pause-and-repeat: aligning facings, setting collars, easing sleeve caps, and bagging a lining. The teaching style is close-up and methodical, with checkpoints that tell you what to look for before you proceed. After registration, you receive a confirmation email that explains access details and how to pace modules alongside a real project.
